September 25: EEE Update #4

The District continues to monitor news regarding cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) that have occurred in several Michigan counties, including Lapeer. Out of an abundance of caution, the District has elected to apply mosquito control measures at all our schools.

A mosquito pesticide will be applied by a licensed professional contractor at the following schools on Saturday, September 28, 2019: Lapeer High School, CFI, Zemmer Campus, Rolland-Warner Campus, Lynch Elementary, Mayfield Elementary, Murphy Elementary, Schickler Elementary, Turrill Elementary and the Cramton Campus. The perimeters of all the properties and buildings will be sprayed as well as areas around play structures.

We continue to encourage all community members to follow the recommendations of the health department by applying repellent and wearing long sleeves and pants for any activity that takes place at dusk or later. This recommendation will be in effect until the first hard freeze of the fall.

For more information, contact Mark Misener, Facilities and Grounds Coordinator, at mmisener@lapeerschools.org. For more information on pesticide application, contact the National Pesticide Information Center at 800-858-7378.
