LAPEER, Michigan — The Service Learning classes at Rolland-Warner Middle School have yet another unique opportunity to give back to the community. The students, in seventh and eighth grade, are teaming up with preschool “buddies ” at Kids and Company, the District’s preschool and childcare facility on the Rolland-Warner Campus.
In Mrs. DelCampo’s preschool class, students meet with their middle school buddies twice a week to read books together in the Rolland-Warner Media Center. The middle school students work together to come up with questions and activities to go along with the books to help the young students grow as readers and thinkers.
In the other classrooms, the students have the opportunity to team up with preschoolers on projects such as making volcanoes and ice cream as well as creating activities that help with shapes and numbers. Both the middle school and preschool students have gained valuable knowledge from this great experience.
“Throughout the program, each of our students has learned valuable leadership skills,” David Sweeney, RWMS Service Learning Teacher. “They look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays so they can work with their buddies.”
This is just one of the excellent programs and projects run by the Kids & Company. If you are interested in enrolling your children, there are spots available for next year. For more information, call (810) 667-2454 or visit online at kids.lapeerschools.org.
