Nearly 300 LCS staff members attended a workshop with author and professor Peter Johnston at Zemmer Middle school on Monday. Johnston is Vincent O’Leary Professor in the Reading Department at the State University of New York in Albany. A former elementary teacher, his work has been featured in numerous scholarly publications including the Journal of Literacy Research and Harvard Educational Review.

Johnston’s workshop serves to demonstrate how choices being made in classrooms, particularly language choices, influence the qualities of the classroom learning community.
