Lapeer Community Schools’ Energy Committee will hold its first meeting for the 2012-13 school year on Wednesday. The committee, started last school year, has as its goal to find new and creative ways to conserve energy across the District.
Last school year, students, parents, teachers, bus drivers, cooks and custodians all played a role in saving LCS thousands in energy costs by doing small things every day. Turning off lights, computers, printers, consolidating refrigerators, tightening leaky faucets, closing windows, etc., seem like small things; but, added together, they can really add up.
Last year we learned that energy conservation can be both a money saver for the District and an opportunity for students to learn about how energy is produced, distributed and conserved.
Advertisements, such as the one seen here, have been created and are being used in our buildings as a reminder to students and staff to be vigilant about energy consumption.
After Wednesday’s meeting, we will have more information about how you can take part in the District’s energy conservation efforts.
