Information for April 8 Total Solar Eclipse

Hello LCS Families,

As you might expect, we have been receiving quite a few questions regarding the upcoming total solar eclipse happening next Monday, April 8, and we’d like to pass along the following information to help answer some of those questions.

First off, Lapeer is not in the direct path of totality for the eclipse but it will be visible from Lapeer. According to forecasts, we will experience about 90% coverage of the sun in our local area.

Secondly, given the forecasted path of the eclipse, we can expect it to begin around 1:59 p.m., with gradual darkening, primarily. The closest to “totality” we will have from a visibility standpoint in Lapeer will be at about 3:14 p.m.

Lastly, the effects of the eclipse should conclude around 4:27 p.m.

Please remind your children about eye safety, for example, asking them to not stare at the sun or they’ll potentially damage their eyes.

The school day on Monday will be business as usual. We have no plans to alter operations or school hours, and we have no plans to have an early dismissal or close our buildings.
