Joe Wood named varsity wrestling coach at LHS

From LHS Athletic Director, Shad Spilski: Lapeer High School is excited to welcome Joe Wood as the new Lapeer Lightning wrestling head coach. Coach Wood is entering his 16th year of coaching wrestling.  He was most recently the head coach at Clarkston High School, where he helped direct the Wolves to the state quarterfinals in 2019 and 2020, while also coaching multiple state qualifiers. He was named the MWA Regional Head Coach of the Year in 2018, 2019, and 2020.   

While attending Clarkston High School himself, Coach Wood was a two time all-state and all-american wrestler.  He wrestled collegiately at Eastern Michigan University and at the US Olympic Education Center.

Joe will inject excitement and passion into the wrestling program. He is focused on the development of all athletes and preparing each wrestler to peak at the right time. His experience, knowledge, and connection to the wrestling world, is going to serve the wrestling program well and will provide the Lightning wrestlers many opportunities and experiences to be successful .
