Woodchips BBQ has been a pillar of Downtown Lapeer since opening their doors in 2014 and has made its name as a committed community leader.

Throughout the past year, Woodchips BBQ has been donating to local organizations as well as individual residents in need, and is more committed than ever to helping Lapeer thrive.

In partnership with the Lapeer Athletic Boosters, Woodchips BBQ is establishing the Lightning Lounge, converting the existing concession stand and surrounding space into a fun, food focused environment where patrons can enjoy a more elevated menu.

The Lightning Lounge will continue to serve traditional football favorites along with the addition of Woodchips BBQ classics like their famous pulled pork and 4-cheese mac and cheese. Healthier options will also be available including chips with homemade salsa and fresh veggie plates.

Kookys N Cream, Woodchips BBQ’s sister cookie and ice cream shop, will also be offering cookies and their one-of-a-kind Cookie Cream at the Lightning Lounge.

The Boosters will continue to operate the concession stand with the guidance of Patrick Hingst (Lapeer East Class of ’00), founder and owner of Woodchips BBQ, at home football games with plans to develop a broader partnership with the Athletic Boosters.

Lapper High School Athletic Director Shad Spilski adds, “We are thrilled to be working with Woodchips BBQ and Kookys N Cream to enhance the sport-going experience for our families and fans.  We are proud to show visiting teams and communities just how special and unique Lapeer is and ‘WOW’ everyone who visits our school.  We’re hoping this encourages even bigger turnouts and participation.”

The Lightning Lounge will launch on September 10 with the new menu being offered at all scheduled home games for the football program.

“I have wanted to help Lapeer succeed since moving here when I was eleven years old. We have the most incredible community, and I truly believe we are tapping into our potential with the renovations going on downtown and by bringing our community even closer together with this type of initiative and look forward to developing even more opportunities for success”, says Hingst of Woodchips BBQ.
