Lapeer Community Schools has been monitoring news regarding cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) that have occurred in several Michigan counties, including Lapeer. At this point, the District will maintain the current outdoor activity schedule for the foreseeable future.
In the interim, we will work with a local pest control company to spray outdoor student spaces across the District.
In addition, we request that students apply insect repellent prior to going outdoors. In the case of younger students, parents should apply repellent prior to the start of the school day. School employees are not permitted to administer mosquito spray for students without parental consent.
Fortunately, elementary recesses and the majority of athletic practices take place during daylight hours when the risk is lowest. For any activity that takes place at dusk or later, we encourage all students, staff and community members to heed the recommendations of the health department by applying repellent and wearing long sleeves and pants.
Any additional information regarding changes to activity start times will be posted on the District website at LapeerSchools.org.
