Statement from Lapeer Community Schools Board of Education Trustee Jonathan Nugent:

“It is with a heavy heart I submit my letter of resignation from the Lapeer Community Schools Board of Education. I am no longer able to devote the necessary time and focus to be a good Trustee of the Board of Education. Supporting my wife in her fight against cancer takes precedence when it comes to my time and talents. I am sure all can understand this priority. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the community for the last three years. I am very proud of the many things we have been able to accomplish to make Lapeer Community Schools the best schools in Michigan!”

Nugent’s resignation will be effective Oct. 30, 2015.

LCS Board of Education President Mike Keller said Nugent’s absence on the board will be felt immediately.

“Jon brought so much experience and intellect to his position on the board,” Keller said. “He always kept the best interests of students in the forefront of his mind. He will be sorely missed by this board, as a colleague and friend.”

Nugent’s seat will remain vacant until a qualified candidate is appointed by a board vote. All interested candidates must submit a notice of interest in writing to LCS Superintendent Matt Wandrie by noon on Oct. 29, 2015. The written notice must include the prospective candidate’s name, address, phone number and list of qualifications. All candidates must be registered voters and reside in the District. The information of all qualified candidates will be sent to the Board of Education for consideration.

The most qualified candidates will be interviewed at the Nov. 5 board meeting. Once a candidate is appointed, he or she will serve out the remainder of Nugent’s term ending Dec. 31, 2016.
