Are you a parent of a current 10^th and 11^th grader? Are you looking for college credit earning opportunities to dual enroll at University of Michigan-Flint? If so, we have a great opportunity for you.  You are invited to the Lapeer High School auditorium on Wednesday night (February 11) at 6 p.m. to learn more.

Let’s start with a simple fact: College is expensive.

Four classes at UM-Flint costs the average college freshman roughly $5,000. That’s a lot of money, but there are ways to make college more affordable. While still in high school, LCS students can earn 12 college credits (a typical first semester of college). They can take courses during the school day, taught by college professors and without having to leave Lapeer. They can get access to many general education credits needed for most college and university programs. Transportation is also provided.

Whether students pursue a degree in Business or Humanities, these are credits valuable to most college programs. This is a great opportunity for pre-med students, for example, to complete general education coursework in social science to meet graduation requirements so that their freshman year is more concentrated in the sciences.

In addition, the first four required courses for a business major are included in this package. This is an awesome opportunity for students interested in business. This is a great way to see if it’s an area of interest under their parents’ roof and with the support of their high school.

The information night is directly addressed to parents and students who are currently 10^th and 11^th graders, planning for the junior and senior year (9th graders and their parents may also want to plan ahead for their high school classes). UM-Flint representatives will offer a Q&A session for them at 7 p.m. after their orientation session is finished in the auditorium. Hosts will help direct families to the designated rooms.

We hope to see you at LHS Wednesday night! The experience and savings are extremely valuable to the student making important decisions and to the parent with the cost of tuition increasing each year.
