The Lapeer West softball team gave their coach, Brad Walker, one for the road on Saturday. The team earned the veteran coach a fifth consecutive district championship in his final season with a victory over Flint Kearsley.
The victory was sparked by a two-run home run by Lindsay Reynolds.
For Lapeer West, the season has been challenging and contained a few dissapointing losses and several come-from-behind wins. Saturday’s victory marked the team’s fifth consecutive district championship, something Walker attributes to his team’s hard work in practice.
“It’s been up and down for us this season, so it was nice to see the team that we’re capable of being playing today,” he said.
After 24 years, 12 district championships, and 587 wins at Lapeer West, Walker is retiring following the completion of the season.
“It’s been a great run coaching,” he said. “I’m so glad that I was able to be a part of this team. It’s been a lot of fun.”
