The work of high school artists from around Lapeer County will go on display at Gallery 194 next week with an exhibit running Tuesday, May 1 through Saturday, May 12. A reception that is FREE and open to the public will take place Saturday, May 5 from 5pm to 7pm at the gallery featuring these talented student artists, an open mic of student singer/songwriters and refreshments.

Ninth through 12th grade student artists from Imlay City, North Branch, the Lapeer Community Schools, Dryden, Almont, Kendall College of Art and Design Dual Enrollment Program and home school communities will be included. Mediums and contributing artists are bountiful. Gallery Assistant, James Alt, estimates more than 125 2D pieces with mediums ranging from charcoal, pencil, and watercolor to a variety of other paints along with approximately 50 3D pieces including sculpture, pottery, mixed media and more.

“Kendall College is a new and generous sponsor for the High School exhibit this year,” explains Carolyn Manley McCarter, Gallery Director, “they will help with our marketing costs and judge the juniors’ and seniors’ artwork in order to award college scholarships to art students in our community. This is a very exciting opportunity for Lapeer students!” Jurying will take place the week prior to the May 5th reception by a representative of the Kendall Scholarship Committee from the main campus in Grand Rapids. Scholarship winners will be announced at the reception by Nancy Barry, Lapeer’s Kendall Dual Enrollment instructor who teaches Kendall students at Gallery 194. “High School artists blow us away with their creativity every year and we are looking forward to another year of new and inspiring pieces,” concludes McCarter. “You have to see it to believe it!”
