LCS students participate in mock government programs in Lansing

Kimmie Kuligowski, a seventh grader at Zemmer Middle School, prepares to address her peers on the floor of the Michigan State Senate on Monday. Kimmie is one of 14 middle school students representing LCS at the Michigan Youth in Government program in Lansing.

LANSING, Michigan — A group of students from Rolland-Warner and Zemmer middle schools have the opportunity to do something most people never will. 14 students are taking part in the Michigan Youth in Government program in Lansing this week, gaining access to the hallowed halls of state government. The students are learning how government works from the inside out. They are taking part in committees, authoring bills and manufacturing consent.

To learn more about the program, check out a feature in the December issue of News & Views in the Lapeer Area View.
