Coming January 25: Opportunity Night 2022 at Lapeer High School

To get started on a journey, sometimes all we need is a little direction. For students in grades 5-12, Opportunity Night 2022 at Lapeer High School is a great start! This event is aimed at offering students and parents information on a variety of academic and extra-curricular opportunities available in Lapeer Community Schools.

“We always say, it’s never too early to start thinking about the next step of the journey,” said LHS Counselor Jan Ciaramela, the event organizer. “Opportunity Night is about empowering students and parents to utilize the incredible resources the District has to offer in order to ensure successful next steps.”

Representatives from numerous programs, opportunities and student groups will be available to share information with parents and students during this event.

Beginning at 6 p.m., we will offer families the chance to attend a presentation of up to four educational sessions lasting about 25 minutes each in a small group setting. There will also be opportunities to ask individual questions of our representatives as well as check out and gather information about our clubs, groups and departments at stations in the hallways.

“Over the years, many people who have attended this event come away shocked at how many opportunities are available to our students,” Ciaramela said. “This event is a point of pride for our schools; it’s our chance to show and tell. And there’s so much to see and hear.”

Here’s a sample of some of the programs that will be represented at Opportunity Night 2022: Lapeer Early College, AP, Project Lead the Way, CTE & Work-Based Programs, Lapeer Virtual Partnership, FIRST Robotics and dual enrollment.

In addition, this is a great opportunity for parents and students to get acquainted with the resources they need to have a successful transition from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school and high school to college. There will be a FAFSA completion opportunity from 6-7:30 p.m. in the LHS Media Center, as well as schedule selection information opportunities at the 6-7 and 8-9 levels. High school counselors will be available to discuss and answer questions about scheduling, financial aid and much more. Don’t miss it!
