On Sunday, the Lapeer County Press published a story highlighting the US News and World Report school rankings that once again placed Schickler Elementary as the top elementary school in Lapeer County. Not only was Schickler at the top of the heap in the county, it was ranked in the top five percent of elementary schools statewide.
From the Lapeer County Press:
Schools were assessed on their pupils’ proficiencies in mathematics and reading, as measured by state assessment tests. Half of the ranking formula was the results themselves; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are high-achieving ones that succeeded in educating all of their students. All data for the rankings are from third-party sources, including the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Schickler Principal Michele McKendry said she’s “honored” to be part of a school that prides itself on being a family. “We collectively challenge ourselves to work together to make every day matter for each and every one of our students, and I think that effort is reflected in this recognition,” she said.
Schickler is no stranger to being recognized, and Lapeer Community Schools Superintendent Matt Wandrie said the district is “incredibly excited” to once again be home to the top elementary school in Lapeer County. “Schickler Elementary continues to beat the odds thanks to our dedicated staff, hard-working students, and the school community that supports them,” he said.
Congratulations to the students and staff of Schickler Elementary for this tremendous honor. Keep up the great work!
