Lightning trio leads SVL-Red in rushing, receiving and passing yards

LHS Senior RB Brayden McKenna

So far this season, Lapeer football has led both divisions of the Saginaw Valley League in offensive production (2,085 yards) led by Brayden McKenna and the big boys up front. The senior running back has been a one-man wrecking crew this season, rushing for more than 200 yards per game through four games with 16 total touchdowns (he leads the SVL in both categories).

McKenna, three-year starter who was first team all conference last season, is currently the top rusher in both the Red and Blue divisions of the SVL and among the top offensive weapons in the state.

Sophomore QB Zak Olejniczak leads the SVL in total passing yards

Quarterback Zak Olejniczak has put together an incredible season from behind center for the Lightning. His name is hard to say, but his game is harder to forget.

The sophomore signal caller, in his first season on varsity, has been the most prolific passer in either division of the Saginaw Valley League through four games. He has completed 65 percent of his passes for 879 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

The top receiving threat for the Lightning, junior Tyler Tarantino, has used his sprinter speed to amass an SVL-Red leading 335 yards this season (with an absurd 47 yards per reception). Tarantino ran an 11.27-second 100 meters as a sophomore, and is now showing his track speed on Friday nights.

The Lightning (3-1) will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday on the road against Saginaw United (0-4). Listen to the game live on US 103.1.
