Lapeer High School Staff and Parents –
In the last two weeks, Lapeer High School has experienced 18 positive cases of COVID-19 among staff and students, and well over 200 required to quarantine. Due to this increase in cases and quarantines, and the difficulty of keeping the building adequately staffed, the District has made the decision to return to our remote learning plan for students in grades 10-12. This period of remote instruction will be for two weeks, from February 3 through February 16. Our plan is to return to face-to-face instruction on February 17. We will evaluate the status of our return consistently during this period.
This remote learning period will be very familiar to your student, and will follow this daily schedule:
Remote Learning Schedule
Please note: First and second hour times have changed from the fall remote learning period.
|1st Hour||7:30 a.m.|
|2nd Hour||8:30 a.m.|
|3rd Hour||10:00 a.m.|
|4th Hour||11:30 a.m.|

It is vital that your student(s) remain engaged in learning during this time.

During the remote period, the custodial staff will do a full-scale deep clean on the building in preparation for our return to face-to-face instruction.
After-School Activities and Athletics
Traditional after-school activities will be suspended during this time with the exception of athletics. Athletic teams that are currently practicing and competing will continue to do so as normal, while following the existing health and safety guidelines.
Lapeer High School will remain open for numerous support services including special education services during the two-week remote learning period.
Students will continue to attend Ed-Tech as normal. The District will provide transportation to Ed-Tech but students are responsible to provide their own mid-day transportation to or from home during this two-week period. (AM students will need a ride home after Ed-Tech and PM students will need a ride to the building to go to Ed-Tech)
The District will make food available for students for pick-up just as we did during the remote learning period in the fall. In addition, any students coming to the building for support services will have breakfast and lunch made available to them.
Zemmer students who have a portion of their schedule at LHS will remain at Zemmer and complete those courses remotely in the computer lab.
We encourage all LHS students to take everything they will need for the next two weeks home with them at the conclusion of school today. In addition, we ask that all students follow proper health and safety guidelines while they are away in order to ensure we have a seamless transition back to face-to-face instruction on February 17. We have, unfortunately, seen many examples of students engaged in activities that can, and often do, lead to increased spread of the virus.
Please understand that the District has done everything in its power to maintain face-to-face instruction, and we will continue to do so moving forward. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this ongoing challenge.
