Statement from Mike Keller on LCS Board of Education vacancy

Due to the resignation of Trustee Jan Peabody, the LCS Board of Education is required to appoint a new member to serve until the next scheduled board election (November 2020). Board president, Mike Keller, outlined the process for appointment at the January 15 regular meeting: 

As the Board is aware, there is a current vacancy on the Board of Education.  The Board will make this vacancy public.  Interested persons must submit a letter expressing interest in the Board position, along with qualifications for the position, including your address and phone number, to the Superintendent’s Office no later than noon on January 29, 2020.  

To be eligible, a person must be a qualified school elector.  This means that the applicant must be a registered voter in the school district.  An applicant must be at least 18 years of age; a citizen of the United States; a resident of the State of Michigan for at least 30 days; and a resident of the school district.

Following review of the submitted materials, the Board will schedule interviews with selected candidates at the regularly scheduled February 5 Board meeting.  Deliberation, voting of candidate and oath of office will take place at a Special Meeting on February 12, 2020 at 7:00 PM.  If you have any questions concerning the role of the Board of Education and the responsibilities of a Board member, please contact the Superintendent’s Office, 810-538-1604.
