Letter to Students: Let’s Finish out the School Year on a Positive Note

Letter to Students from LCS Superintendent Matt Wandrie:

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, I want to encourage all students to finish out the year in a productive and positive way. This time of year brings a lot excitement with year-end activities, graduation ceremonies and summer plans. During this time, we want to make sure all of our students are making good decisions inside and outside of school. As a school community, we must always look out for one another like a family. This means that we should go out of our way to resolve conflicts without resorting to risky behaviors, personal attacks or threatening language.

Part of growing up is learning how to deal with adversity in appropriate ways. Words have the power to build up and tear down, inspire and depress. If you want to be a force for good in your school, you must approach every day with high expectations for your behavior and that of your classmates.

You Should:

• Support and encourage one another in moments of stress and weakness.

• Seek to find solutions to problems, not create new ones.

• Always respond in kindness, no matter how offended, hurt or angry you are.

• Tell an adult if you see or hear something that is concerning, rather than sharing this information on social media.

• Tell the truth. Sharing false or misleading information can lead to undue concern, even panic, in a school community.

In the last couple weeks of school, let’s be intentional about our interactions with classmates and staff members. Let’s choose our words carefully and remind others to do the same. Let’s build each other up, solve problems and show kindness to everyone we meet.

Have a great summer!

Matt
