Alex Thomas shines at county track meet

4x400 M relay teamThe Lapeer County Track Meet sponsored by The County Press and North Branch American Legion is a non-scored meet intended to highlight Lapeer County’s top track and field athletes.

Lapeer High School senior Alex Thomas fits that bill, not just this season but throughout her career at LHS.

Thomas was presented the female athlete of the meet award after placing first in the 100 meters (12.93), 400 meters (1:01.5), 200 meters (meet record 27.0) and being part of a meet record setting 4×200 relay team.

Thomas has school records in the 60 meter dash, 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. 

“We are very happy to have her on the track team full time this year,” said Coach Russ Reitz. “She’s a great kid.”

Thomas wil play soccer at Michigan State University.

Other first places: 4×800 relay (Alyssa Vanooteghem, Becca Deneweth, Brooklyn George, Morgan Turk 10:42.5) and 4×200 relay (Elle Perry, Kellee Byard, Lauren Barber, and Thomas 1:50.84 meet record).

Second places: Becca Morrish (shot put 28’8″), 4×100 relay (Barber, Mariah Brown, Byard, Perry 52.78), Barber (200 meters 27.02), and 4×400 relay (Vanootheghem, Kristen Kautz, Turk, Barber 4:28.5).

Third places: Maddy Mello (pole vault 7’6″), Kautz (100 hurdles 19.46), Byard (100 meters 13.37), Deneweth (1600 meters 6:01.8) and Turk (800 meter run 2:39.4)17992144_10154974640555395_355773465962896613_n
