Save the dates: Opportunities abound for info on secondary and post-secondary options

When a representative from Saginaw Valley State University recently asked a group of LHS juniors if they liked a variety choices in education, the spice of life compelled nearly every student to raise their hand.

Those students are in the right place.

It’s hard to believe, but students in the District of Choices are on the brink of scheduling for the 2016-17 school year. With so many options available to students in grades 6-12, we hope that parents will take full advantage of the evening presentations intended for them, as well as to carefully review the materials that their students bring home from their information sessions during the school day.

The discussion that takes place within the home, along with the guidance of counselors, teachers and school professionals, are all important pieces to the puzzle when our young people are making decisions about their middle school and high school courses to prepare them for their post-secondary options.  Listed in bold are the events that are specifically planned for parents to attend:

Jan. 27: Junior Jump (school day) at CFI.

Jan. 28: UM-Flint presents to LHS sophomores and juniors (school day)

Jan. 29, Feb 1, 2: Lapeer Early College presentation to 10th graders (school day)

Feb. 1:  College on Campus Parent Night: UM-Flint, Baker College, Mott College 530 pm LHS

Feb. 2: Zemmer scheduling assistance counselor sessions: 230-630 pm

Feb. 3: Ed Tech Open House. 5-7 pm

Feb. 9: All Program Scheduling Night: For parents and students.  Early College, Advanced Placement, Ed Tech, PLTW, Elective and academic options.  Learn about all programs. Choose the sessions you’d like to attend. Grades 7-11. At LHS 6 pm

Feb. 24: 7th grade scheduling assistance sessions: 6-730 pm

Feb. 29: 5th to 6th grade: Traditional calendar Info Night (Murphy/Mayfield 6pm), (Lynch/Schickler 730 pm)

March 7: Year-round: Grades 6-8 in the fall interested in year-round program.  6 pm, Rolland-Warner Campus.
