Letter from Superintendent Wandrie: LCS expands virtual schooling option

To the Lapeer Community:

I am pleased to announce that Lapeer Community Schools is expanding our virtual schooling option effective in the fall of 2015. As you may know, we have offered a virtual option for students in grades 6-12 since the fall of 2012. Beginning this school year, we are expanding our virtual program to include the option of full-time virtual instruction for students in grades K-5 as well.

The district has partnered with Lincoln Learning Solutions to provide curriculum and support for our students. Parents should expect to see similar subject area material and coverage that would be seen in a traditional school with students having experiences in English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, along with elective courses in such subjects as music, art, and physical education. All students will have an assigned teacher from the district to provide support, with parents serving as the primary teacher at home. In addition to support from a distance, the students’ teacher will be on site at the Lapeer Homeschool Partnership building (Cramton Campus) each Tuesday to provide in person support and instruction with the student and parent.

In order to participate in the virtual program, students must be enrolled in the Lapeer Community School district. Enrollment forms may be obtained online or in any of our buildings. Persons with enrollment questions or who are interested in the virtual program are asked to call our Center for Innovation at (810) 667-2423.

Virtual learning represents an important commitment to having choices in education. We are pleased and proud to be able to offer this opportunity to all of our families. Lapeer truly is the District of Choices!

Sincerely,

Matthew T. Wandrie
