The Top 10: Lapeer East Class of 2014

Top Ten photosHere are the top 10 graduates (actually 11, due to ties) from the Class of 2014 at Lapeer East High School. Great job!

1.) Brennah Donahue: She is the daughter of Richard and Susana Donahue of Metamora. Brennah is ranked first in her class with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.    She has served as Class Council president since 2010, treasurer and vice president for Student Council, as well as a co-chair for Omni council.  Brennah has also supported her school through her involvement in Drama Club, Student Publications (as editor-in-chief this past school year), and as a LINKS mentor.  She has also been the treasurer of National Honor Society while assisting with the Red Cross blood drive.  Brennah has been named team captain for both Varsity cross country and Varsity track while also participating on the Quiz Bowl team.  Brennah was recently chosen to receive the Youth Citizen of the Year Award for Lapeer County by the Lapeer Chamber of Commerce.  She will be receiving the Lapeer East Outstanding Service Award in the amount of $1,000 for her tireless work at school and in the community.  Brennah will be attending Central Michigan University and has been awarded the Leadership Advancement Scholarship, Presidential Merit Scholarship and the Multicultural Advancement Award of Distinction.

1.) Payton Holden: She is the daughter of Bill and Anne Holden. Payton is ranked first in her class with a perfect 4.0 GPA and plans to study Optometry at Oakland University. Payton has distinguished herself in many leadership roles, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Payton’s leadership was honored by receiving the Principal’s Leadership Award, and the American Legion Girls State Award. She also participated in Volleyball and Track along with numerous clubs and organizations here at Lapeer East.  Payton has also been active in giving her time to the community through volunteering to help with the Salvation Army, Adopt a Family Donations, First Presbyterian Soup Kitchen, Walk for Warmth, Project Homeless, and visiting at Nursing Homes. She has also held down a job at the Historic White Horse Inn and in the office at the Hunters Creek Club. She plans to someday have her own eye clinic and hopes to work on finding a cure for her father’s blindness.

1.) Patrick Ricchi: He is the son of Rick and MaryAnn Ricchi of Lapeer. Patrick is ranked number one in the class 2014 with a GPA of 4.0. He has received high academic honors all four years of high school.  In addition to his academic achievement, Patrick has been a leader in many extracurricular and volunteer activities.  He has been a member of the Lapeer East Varsity Golf Team for four years, and was the recipient of the Coach’s Award for Golf. He received honorable mention for golf in his junior year.  Patrick was the Lapeer East representative for Omni Council’s leadership forum.  He has also been a peer tutor at Lapeer East.  Patrick will be attending Michigan Technological University where he is the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship. He plans to study Engineering.

4.) Nicole Romolino:  She is the daughter of Steve and Shannon Romolino. Nicole is ranked fourth in the class of 2014 with a GPA of 3.98. Nicole has received high academic honors all four years of high school.  In addition to her academic achievement, Nicole has been a leader in many areas.   She has been the National Honor Society President, Pep Club secretary, treasurer for both class council and student council.   Nicole has served as captain of varsity Soccer, freshman mentor captain along with many other leadership roles at Lapeer East High School.  Nicole plans to attend Oakland University this fall to study Biology and pre-med.  Her career goal is to become a Neurologist.  She is the recipient of the Talented Scholar Scholarship from Oakland University.

5.) Lois Fair: She is the daughter of Matthew and Valerie Fair.  Lois is ranked fifth in her class with a 3.98 GPA and is a current member of National Honor Society where she has assisted with blood drives, soup kitchens, and tutoring others.  Lois has been involved in Class Council all four years (one year as secretary) and played on both the tennis and cheer teams.  She has also been involved with Homecoming float building, prom planning, Mayfield’s literacy night, as well as bell ringing for the Salvation Army.  Lois was chosen to attend the MY Lead summer leadership conference to work with other leaders from around the state.  She plans to attend Eastern Michigan University to study pre-law and is receiving their Emerald Scholarship.

6.) Matthew Fair: He is the son of Matthew and Valerie Fair. Matthew finished high school ranked sixth with a 3.97 GPA.  Matt has received High Honors all four years while participating in marching band and on the bowling team.  He also works at Burger King.  Matt plans to attend Oakland University to study Computer science.

6.) Jordan Gettel: She is the daughter of Jerry and Suzanne Gettel. Jordan is ranked seventh in her class with a 3.97 GPA and has received High Honors throughout high school.  She has been a member of class council all four years and National Honor Society the last two years.  Jordan has also achieved A.P. Scholar status.  She enjoys helping out in the community through her work at Stone Soup, K9 Stray Rescue League, and Habitat for Humanity Recycling.   Jordan plans to attend Grand Valley State University and is receiving a Merit Scholarship.

8.) Miranda L. Gavette: She is the daughter of William and Deanna Gavette of Attica.  Miranda is ranked eighth in her class with a 3.95 GPA and has received High Honors throughout high school.  She has been selected captain of the Varsity Quiz Bowl team and a section leader in the marching band.   Miranda has participated in Key Club, cross country, and Drama Club while serving as a member of National Honor Society.  This past year she has served as a Chemistry Laboratory Assistant and has worked for the AP Summer Institute assisting with organization and supplies.  Miranda plans to attend Alma College to study Biochemistry and then hopes to pursue a graduate degree afterwards that will allow her to work as a medical researcher or lab technician.

9.) Alec Victor Kluck: He is the son of Lawrence and Susan Kluck. Alec is ranked ninth in his class with a 3.94 GPA. He has been involved in Band, Drama and Tennis during his years at Lapeer East.  He is also active in his church where he has worked at their Vacation Bible School and lead worship. Alec was able to work editing commercials for a large company with his brother.  Alec plans to attend the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in the fall and Major in Engineering.

10.) Nathan Shelly: He is ranked tenth in the class of 2014 with a GPA of 3.92.  He is the son Mr. and Mrs. Todd Shelly of Lapeer. In addition to his academic achievement, Nathan has been a member of the Lapeer East Varsity Golf team for four years. He plans to attend Oakland University in the fall to major in pharmacy.  He has received the Academic Achievement Scholarship from Oakland University.

10.) Tyler Agnew: He is the son of Don and Gavonna Agnew of Lapeer. Tyler is ranked tenth in his class with a 3.92 GPA.  Tyler has achieved High Honors throughout high school and has participated on the robotics team.  He has also worked sales and service at Victory Auto and Trailer Sales.   He plans to attend Eastern Michigan University to study Physics, aiming to become a professor of Astronomy.  He is the recipient of the Eastern First Opportunity Scholarship.
