In the coming months, Lapeer Community Schools will host a series of informational meetings that are open to the public. Each meeting will be a show and tell, of sorts, of the innovative new program offerings coming to the District in Fall 2014 – the year of the consolidation of East and West High Schools. (Scroll to the bottom for schedule.)
“Over the course of the next several months, you’ll see and hear from Lapeer Community Schools more than ever before,” said LCS Superintendent Matt Wandrie. “We’ve been hard at work over the last three years to improve our overall academic program for students, and it’s not going to be a secret anymore.”
Innovation Nights are tailored to parents and students at the secondary level, but younger parents are welcome to come and learn about future academic offerings for their children.
On the agenda will be Project Lead The Way, a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program that begins at sixth grade. In addition, school officials will discuss the Center for Innovation (at the current West High School campus) and the multitude of programs that will be housed at the facility including, STEM programs, robotics, in-house dual enrollment college courses, Springboard, AP Capstone, outdoor athletics and more.
“We want people from across the county to come take a fresh look at Lapeer,” Wandrie said. “We are encouraging people to do some comparison shopping. I don’t think you’ll find another district prepared to offer students more than Lapeer Community Schools.”
