Scott Perkett receives his high school diploma from West Principal Tim Zeeman and becomes the first Lapeer Virtual Learning Center student to earn his Lapeer Community Schools diploma.

Scott Perkett recently became the first student to graduate from the Lapeer Virtual Learning Center, a tuition-free online-based program that started in the fall of 2012. Scott has been living with his great-grandmother and working full-time trying to support himself; LVLC offered him the flexibility to be able to succeed in this endeavor. The traditional school day did not meet his immediate needs since it conflicted with his work schedule.  He enrolled in LVLC and worked full-time in the logging industry.

While working, he suffered an on-the-job injury and lost part of his finger. He went through two surgeries and finally recovered over the course of a month.  During this time, Scott completed his high school studies and graduated.  He is currently working full-time at a factory.

Scott’s long-term plans is to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) now that he has his high school diploma.

Congrats Scott. We are all proud of you!
