Check out the great work of Zemmer student Alexis Kigar. Alexis focused on literacy for her “Teen Survival Skills Community Service Project,” which supported the Family Literacy Center.
For the first part of her project, Alexis read to students in three Mayfield elementary classrooms and then asked the students for assistance with the rest of her project. She organized a book drive at the school and rewarded the class that brought in the most books with some special treats.
Ms. Haglund’s class at Mayfield was the ultimate winner, raking in more than 500 books!
The final part of her project included a trip to Family Literacy Center in Lapeer, where Alexis dropped off all the book drive books to help support their mission of promoting literacy in the community.
Kudos to Alexis and everyone at Zemmer and Mayfield who pitched in. What an ambitious project!
