Former West High School standout Anthony Sisson wins JUCO national title with Mott

Sophomore Anthony Sisson, a reserve guard at Mott Community College, cuts down the net after Mott's 70-60 win on Saturday night in the JUCO national championship game in Danville, Illinois.

DANVILLE, Illinois — Anthony Sisson, a 2010 graduate of Lapeer West High School, passed up at least one opportunity to move on to an NCAA Division III school last summer. The decision to stay at Mott Community College for one more year after his team lost in the national championship game last March probably surprised some people, but the chance to win a national championship was just too good to pass up.

Sisson’s role on the team didn’t change much during his sophomore season; he remained a reserve guard on the bench for hall of fame head coach Steve Schmidt. None of that matters, however, after Mott won the program’s fourth national championship over the weekend. Now Sisson will move on to a four-year school, finish out his career as a student-athlete armed with the memory of an experience he will never forget.
