Former Lapeer East football standout Joe Long has been named the Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Long is in his final year at Wayne State University in Detroit.
By all indications, Long will have the opportunity to join his brother, Jake, in the NFL. Jake Long is among the top offensive tackles in the NFL.
From The Flint Journal:
Long, a senior who prepped at Lapeer East, is a four-time All-GLIAC selection who will set WSU career and consecutive games started records when the Warriors play Saturday at St. Cloud State (Minn.).
Long, the brother of Miami Dolphins Pro Bowler Jake Long, has blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher all four season at WSU. This season, the Warriors ranked second in the GLIAC in scoring (35.5 ppg.), fourth in rushing yards (197.4 ypg.) while tying for the fewest number of sacks allowed (10).
