‘Mardi’ party: Seaton Elementary French class gets a taste of escargot

Ann Marie Badke served escargot, a delicacy in France, in her French class this morning. By the time students at Seaton hit the 5th grade, they will already have two years of French under their belts.

Students in Ann Marie Badke’s French class at Seaton Elementary wrapped their minds and mouths around a bit of French culture Tuesday morning. Each student had the opportunity to sample a delicacy the French call “escargot”; to the rest of us, they are the somewhat less-sophisticated-sounding “snails.”

Most of the students who tried the appetizer, served with butter, garlic and French bread, said it tasted pretty good.

After the taste testing, Mrs. Badke did a lesson on the history of escargot as an appetizer.

Seaton students in the third and fourth grades are required to take a foreign language. In fifth grade, they have the option to continue with their foreign language learning.
