Undefeated: Lapeer East downs Linden to win FML championship

The Eagles of Lapeer East took down Linden on Tuesday to secure the Flint Metro League boys’ soccer championship. The 1-0 win was the team’s 14th on the season. Duncan Rowley scored the game’s only goal and Colin Owen earned the shutout in net.

“I’m very happy for our guys,” said Lapeer East head coach Chad Kenny. “This is something that they wanted to do. Last year was special since we went to a final four, but we finished 2nd in our league. So the guys really wanted a league title.”

The shutout was Owen’s 14th of the season, a mark that ties the Flint area record for career shutouts.

“It  was something the guys wanted for him,” Kenny said. “He just goes out and plays the same each game … it’s very impressive.”

The undefeated Eagles will play Lake Orion at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday at home.
