Lapeer Community Schools is proud to partner with the State of Michigan’s OK2Say initiative. This statewide student safety initiative allows students to confidentially report tips about potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools.
“We always tell our students, ‘see something, say something,’ said Joe Wood, the District’s Health and Safety Administrator. “Saying something is not always easy for kids, so this program offers them a simple, anonymous method to report potentially harmful behaviors before they happen.”
The initiative encourages students to report many different types of anti-social behavior including harm to themselves or others, bullying of any kind, violence or any suspicious behavior.
Identified school personnel will receive notice whenever there’s an entry in the system specific to one of our students or schools — this is a 24/7 alert system.
The District will be taking strides to promote the OK2Say initiative throughout our schools in the coming weeks. Increased participation in the program will go hand-in-hand with the District’s investment in staff and student training in ALICE (critical incident response) and CSTAG (threat assessment).
“What we are creating here is a district-wide culture of safety and security,” said LCS Superintendent Matt Wandrie. “It involves a major emphasis on physical infrastructure and programming, but also a focus on wellness for the whole child — including mental health.”
