Lapeer West junior Anthony Cotton is leaving Friday to compete in the World Championships of Karate for Team USA in Heraklion, Greece. This is the equivalent of the Olympics for karate.

This is Cotton’s fifth year of competition in the event. Last year he received his first gold medal. He is a third-degree blackbelt and has been training for a decade at Lapeer’s own Dragon Karate.

Cotton is an honor student and a member of the National Honors Society.
