During the 2011-12 school year, Lapeer Community Schools started the process of implementing an “Energy Essentials” program aimed at conserving energy across the District.

Working alongside Rob DeBoer, an energy consultant from Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO), representatives from all 14 LCS buildings helped craft an energy conservation plan that is tailor-made for the District.

According to the EPA, energy conservation plans can provide savings as high as 30 percent; but, the amount of savings is directly related to the speed at which an energy conservation strategy is implemented and how thoroughly it is followed.

Initial estimates for LCS are in the $100,000-200,000 range annually.
